What Is IEEE ?

IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology.

Through its global membership, IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others.

History Of IEEE

In the spring of 1884, a small group of individuals in the electrical professions met in New York, USA. They formed a new organization to support professionals in their nascent field and to aid them in their efforts to apply innovation for the betterment of humanity—the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, or AIEE for short.
A new industry arose, beginning with Guglielmo Marconi’s wireless telegraphy experiments in 1895-1896. With the new industry came a new society in 1912, the Institute of Radio Engineers. The IRE was modeled on the AIEE but was devoted to radio, and then broadly to electronics.
On 1 January 1963, the AIEE and the IRE merged to form the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, or IEEE. At its formation, IEEE had 150,000 members, 140,000 of whom resided in the United States.

Mission and Vision

IEEE's core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

IEEE will be essential to the global technical community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of technical professionals in improving global conditions.

There are more than 419,000 IEEE members in over 160 countries, more than 50 percent of whom are from outside the United States. IEEE members are engineers, scientists, and allied professionals whose technical interests are rooted in electrical and computer sciences, engineering, and related disciplines.
The highest grade of membership, IEEE Fellow, is attained through nomination by peers and approval by the IEEE Board of Directors for distinction in the profession.

About Our Student Branch

IEEE Student Branch
John Cox Memorial CSI Institute of Technology

IEEE Student Branch JCMSCSIIT was established on the year 2016 by Gopa Kumar S, former Dy. Director, VSSC/ISRO. The student branch was formed by dilligent persistance of Mr.Neeraj V Ipe and Mrs.Merlin George. IEEE SB JCMCSIIT falls under IEEE Kerala Section which is a part of the IEEE India Council which falls under Region 10 (Asia Pacific & Australia) of the global IEEE geography.

IEEE Kerala Section

IEEE activities in Kerala were formally initiated on 17 February 1975 as a subsection under the then India Section. Kerala subsection became part of the Bangalore Section in 1976 upon formation of India Council, and later, it became a full Section in 1983. From the outset, IEEE Kerala Section has been noted for its vibrant activities. Several innovations from IEEE Kerala Section in organizing activities for students as well as professionals have been appreciated and replicated by the global IEEE community. Winner of MGA Large Section Award in 2015 and Region 10 (Asia Pacific) Outstanding Large Section Award in 2004, 2009 and 2015, IEEE Kerala Section has been organizing high quality, high impact technical events including several international conferences in the recent past.

LINK is an innovative concept that originated in IEEE Kerala Section in India, aimed at networking student branches in an effective way, thereby increasing the value in IEEE Student membership. LINK was formally inaugurated by past IEEE President Mr. Cleon Anderson in January 2005. Since its inception LINK has achieved tremendous results, causing an exponential increase in student branches and student activities in IEEE Kerala Section over the years. The model of link was adopted by IEEE Region 10 as R10 GINI (Global Integrated Network of IEEE Students).
